‘If you hate me, I don’t care,’ Coco Martin says in a new post

In a recent Instagram post, Coco Martin shared a message addressing his supposed haters. The post, which was accompanied by a photo on April 29, did not have a caption but conveyed the following sentiment: "I'm too old to worry about who likes me and who dislikes me. I have more important things to do. If you love me, I love you. If you support me, I support you. If you hate me, I don't care. Life goes on with or without you."

Following this post, Coco shared another image featuring a person in prayer, with the message: "When life is rough, pray. When life is great, pray." Although Coco did not explicitly mention who the messages were directed towards, it is speculated that they were in response to rumors surrounding his supposed girlfriend Julia Montes giving birth to their child. Neither Coco nor Julia have addressed this issue. Additionally, Coco has also been linked to his co-star Yassi Pressman from "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano," particularly during their tours abroad.

Coco is not quite out of the 2019 MMFF

The news about Coco Martin's film being dropped from the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) was not entirely accurate. While his entry didn't make it to the first "Magic Four" based on the screenplay, there is still a chance for it to make it to the next "Magic Four" based on the finished product. The initial four films selected were "K(Ampon)" by Quantum Films (horror genre), "Miracle in Cell #7" by Viva Communications (heavy drama), "Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity" by M-Zet Productions and APT Entertainment (family drama), and "Momalland" by Star Cinema/Viva Films (comedy). According to an MMFF spokesperson, there should be no duplication of genres in the final selection.

Coco's film falls into the action genre, and if it remains the only one of its kind in the finished film category, he stands a chance. The announcement of the last four entries is scheduled for September 20, allowing prospective companies enough time to improve their entries. As with previous MMFF editions, the criteria for selection are 40 percent Artistic Excellence, 40 percent Commercial Appeal, 10 percent Filipino Cultural Sensibility, and 10 percent Global Appeal. Additionally, newly sworn-in MMFF executive committee member Senator Bong Go is advocating for another MMFF to be held in June as a boost to the industry.

Senator Bong expressed his gratitude for being included in the MMFF Execom and affirmed his commitment to strengthening and developing the industry, which provides employment and prosperity for many Filipinos. He pledged to address the concerns and needs of the industry by crafting valuable bills. Senator Bong assured the industry members that both he and President Duterte would continue supporting the industry and Filipino films. It's worth noting that Senator Go served as one of the judges for the previous year's MMFF and attended the awarding ceremony in December 2018 at The Theatre at Solaire.

Apart from the MMFF, there are several other film festivals in the Philippines, including PPP (Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino), Cinemalaya, QCinema, Cinema One Originals, CineManila, and ToFarm Film Festival. Some industry insiders jokingly remark that there might be more film festivals than films, but overall, the increased opportunities are seen as positive.
