Layton attended Billy Elliot Academy in Leeds, where he debuted in the Billy Elliot Musical in 2007. he also took street dance and drama lessons at Carol GOdby's Theatre workshop in Bury. He also took Ballet lessons at Centre Pointe, Manchester.
This was in addition to being awarded a schorlaship to Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone, London where he stayed till 2008. Williams attended High School in his home town Bury and then the Italia Conti Academy of theatre Arts in London. Williams' career as an Actor began in her young life as a kid in West End. then, she was starring as Billy Eliot the musical and Young Michael Jackson in the thriller movie Live. In his adult age, he attended a tour with Rent and Everybody's talking about Jamie.
In his career on television, he is well known for his role in the BBC series, Beautiful People which premiered between the years 2008 and 2009. In addition to this, he appeared in the series Bad Education as Stephen Carmichael between the years 2012 and 2014, 2022 and 2024. This is in addition to making an appearance in the CBBC documentary series School for Stars. This documentary documented life at the acting school in Italia Conti.
Layton later went on tour with Matthew Bourne's show, The Car Man. After this, he performed the part of Duane in Hairspray the Musical between the years 2015 and 2016 tour. This was in addition to announcing that he would also be in the new in the hit musical Everybody's Talking About Jamenie in the Apollo Theatre in London's West End. There, he was playing the role of Jamie for 11 months.
Back in the month of August 2019, an announcement was made that Williams would be joining the tour cast of the musical. This was, however, postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and later resumed in the year 2021. This production made its US premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles back in the month of January 2022 and Williams played Jamie.
Later on, in the month of August 2023, he announced as a contenstant on the twenty-first series Strictly Come dancing. There, he was paired with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin. Then, they not only made their first perfect 40 score, but the first of the whole series in Musicals week, which followed up with another in the semi-finals and two in the final. Later on, they finished as joint runners-up alongside Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell, losing to winners Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola.
Beginning 3rd of June all the way to 21st of September 2024, he played as the Emcee in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club at the Playhouse Theatre opposite Rhea Norwood as Sally Bowles. He then originated the role of Iceberg in the West End premiere of Titanic at the Criterion Theatre in the month of December 2024. This earned him a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his performance.
